LAHORE (Dunya News) - Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has begun preparations for nationwide protests against high prices of the petroleum products, Dunya News reported on Wednesday.

Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman demanded that the price of petrol be reduced to Rs 225 per litre. He said that the heavy tax of Rs 150 on petroleum products should be abolished, adding that petrol prices should be frozen for a period of three years.

Hafiz Naeem said that the ruling class should stop living lavishly at the expense of heavy taxes imposed on poor people. He warned that if the government fails to provide relief, nationwide protests will be held on June 19, followed by prolonged sit-ins in the capitals of all four provinces.
